Snore No More

With so many patients complaining about their spouses snoring and keeping them awake my team and I decided it was time to invest in a laser that can help tremendously reduce snoring.

This procedure, done solely with lasers, called NightLase provides a non-surgical path to a better night's sleep. The laser light therapy tightens and opens the airway with a very high success rate and there is no anesthesia necessary. After just one treatment most patients notice at least a 50% reduction in snoring!

While this treatment will probably not cure the underlying disease of sleep apnea, it will allow patients utilizing CPAP therapy to, in most cases, turn down air pressure. Nightlase also works very well in conjunction with oral appliance therapy.*

"After my first NightLase procedure with Dr. Gardner, I immediately felt like I could breath better, and every night since then my husband has said that I have just lightly 'purred,' instead of a loud snore like before. And that's after just one treatment!" - Rachel P. (actual patient)

We invite you to try NightLase, the alternative treatment for snoring, with us for a very special price. This procedure, which is three sessions, is normally an $1,800 investment. Beginning now until October 31 we're happy to offer this to our patients for only $1,200. That's $600 in savings!

For more information on this revolutionary treatment we've included a video below.

For more information and to schedule your reservation please give us a call: 936-585-4353.

*Oral appliance therapy is an alternative to CPAP therapy and is offered in our office. For more information visit this blog post

Say it Ain't So....A CPAP Alternative?!

Did you know that sleep apnea affects millions of people - and many of them don't even realize they have it?!
Although snoring is the most obvious of sleep apnea symptoms, skipping breaths while you sleep is by far a more serious health concern. Left untreated, sleep apnea can be associated with higher risks of serious health problems like heart attack or stroke. Sleep disorders can compromise your whole-body health. It is the number one most undiagnosed disease in this country and unfortunately affects a lot of us.

Imagine if you could stop snoring, stop feeling daytime fatigue, and start sleeping soundly… A good night's sleep may be closer than you think! I’m proud to offer alternatives to uncomfortable CPAP masks.
I have been making sleep/snoring devices for 10 years now, but four years ago instead of placing the lower jaw arbitrarily, judging by where my patient was unable to snore, I began fitting the appliance to the lower jaw's physiological position. The physiological position is where the jaw and muscles are most comfortable and relaxed. This greatly lessens the chance of incurring other problems, like headaches, muscle pain, bite changes, etc., when wearing an oral appliance. In fact, I have yet to have any patients complain of those symptoms since making the change.
Worn while you sleep, oral appliances position your mouth and jaw in a physiological position that makes breathing easier and will, in most cases, stop snoring and get rid of sleep apnea. The best part about these oral appliances is that they are less cumbersome than a CPAP machine. For patients who struggle with feelings of claustrophobia oral appliances have been a lifesaver…literally! My patients also enjoy that they are able to travel with their oral appliance with great ease, unlike a CPAP.

If you're ready to start sleeping better, just give us a call at (936) 585-6611. I'd be happy to discuss your sleep apnea treatment options and find the sleep solution that works best for you.

Dental Implant Savings for You!

I understand that losing one or more teeth impacts a person’s smile, confidence and enjoyment of their favorite foods. That’s why one of the most rewarding things that I do in dentistry is the placement of dental implants. Dental implants are technology's way of taking us a step closer to a tooth replacement that feels secure and looks like your own. The results are natural-looking dental implants that look, feel and function as your own! Whether it’s replacing a single tooth with a dental implant or securing a denture with multiple implants, the results are truly life changing!

I recently completed another implant-supported denture case. Prior to the placement of implants, the patient was constantly gagging one her dentures and spent the majority of the time with them out of her mouth. The patient worried constantly about her dentures slipping while speaking and often covered her mouth when smiling. She was unable to chew her food properly, which can create other long-term health issues. It’s safe to say that the placement of implants to secure her dentures has changed her life:

"When I starting coming to Dr. Gardner's office, I was having constant trouble with my dentures. They were loose and causing constant issues. I was self-conscious; I would not go out to eat with others, watched what I ate, and knew what not to try. Dr. Gardner placed implants on the top and bottom and new dentures were made. I have more confidence now; I smile a lot more. I look directly at someone when doing so. I had a tendency not to smile before as I was afraid someone would know I was wearing dentures. I laugh more, and I eat more of the foods I enjoy, not the ones that are just safe." -Cathy J.

It’s not just those wearing dentures who can benefit from the placement of dental implants. Implants can also be used to replace missing teeth. The placement of a single tooth implant eliminates the unnecessary cutting of healthy tooth structure. Dental implants are easier than a bridge to keep clean and they do not decay.

The best part? Implants are very durable and will last many years. With good care, many implants last a lifetime. Consider implants an investment in your health and yourself!

"Dr. Gardner and his staff are very professional and courteous. They are very good at staying on time with my appointments. I was very happy when I received my implants in 1993. I had very little pain afterwards. It changed everything for me. I have had no problems and they are very low maintenance."

If you've been considering improving your smile by replacing missing teeth, or if you've been struggling to keep your dentures in place, implants could be just the answer for you! I’ve extended a special offer to my patients:

For a limited time we're offering $500 off all implants.

Act before Aug. 31, 2016
and receive $500 off all implants.

Complimentary Orthodontic Consultation

A Beautiful, Functional Smile is Closer Than You Think

Who doesn't want a perfect smile? What if your gorgeous smile could save you from headaches, facial pain and sleep issues later?

Dr. Gardner just returned this weekend from a continuing education course on neuromuscular orthodontics taught by world-famous Dr. Jay Gerber. Dr. Gardner has been studying under Dr. Gerber for the last six years. Dr. Gerber has taught thousands of dentists around the world about neuromuscular orthodontics.
(Find more info on Dr. Gerber here: http://www.orthodonticstudies.com/)

Neuromuscular (NM) orthodontics is much more than just straightening teeth and creating beautiful smiles. NM orthodontics helps tremendously reduce the odds of developing TMJ problems, as well as sleep apnea issues. During this treatment teeth are gradually moved to the place where the head and neck muscles are most comfortable and able to work in harmony during chewing, speaking, swallowing, etc..

"I am passionate about our children avoiding future TMJ issues, headaches, migraines and sleep apnea issues as an adult, that plagues our society" Dr. Gardner said.

NM orthodontics can be completed on children, as well as adults. The sooner children are able to begin NM orthodontic treatment, the more likely they are to avoid painful issues like TMJ problems and sleep apnea later in life.

From now until July 31 Dr. Gardner is proud to offer complimentary orthodontic consultations for the whole family! For children, there's no better time than the summer to begin treatment. Summertime affords kids the time to get used to braces and perfect their speah prior to the start of school.

How to Prevent Expensive Dentistry

Teeth are valuable!

In fact, your mouth’s economic value is over $100,000 and that is on the low side.
An implant and implant crown, the most natural tooth replacement, cost from $4,000-$5,000 each &
most people have 28 teeth in order to smile and chew well.

Doesn’t make sense to protect such a valuable asset?

Preventive Dentistry - the best game in town

Clean teeth and gums do not get decay or gum disease; it is simple as that. Teeth will last a lifetime if certain things are done correctly.  Teeth are different than the rest of your body. You can follow an MD’s advice on prevention of disease like heart disease, diabetes and cancer and improve your odds but there are still no guarantees. If one starts with healthy teeth and gums and keeps them 100% clean, decay and gum disease will not occur.

Biofilm

Biofilm is a mat of bacteria that join together to make a protective, slick, slimy film.  The bacteria are interlocked and form a wall that protects a vast community of bacteria underneath.  Biofilm is everywhere including commodes, slick river rocks, wet slick cement etc.
One of the most known and most studied biofilm is dental plaque.  The mass of different bacteria in dental plaque is the cause of both decay and gum disease.  Dentists and the media call this biofilm plaque.  When free calcium, which exists in saliva, embeds itself in this mat like film, the substance becomes rock hard and then is called calculus.
It is a complicated subject so I am going to make it easy and simple; no biofilm on teeth or under the gums, no decay and no gum disease.  These two infections cannot exist without biofilm.

Removing Biofilm/Plaque

Biofilm/plaque forms constantly on the teeth and gums, even when you do not eat!  So if you want to be 100% disease free, you will want to clean teeth and gums at least twice a day if not more.
My team and I have found that using a combination of the Sonicare Toothbrush, Water Pick and dental floss is the very best regimen.
The Sonicare literally explodes the biofilm with its cleaning technique, the Water Pick removes food debris that feed the plaque and the floss removes the plaque in between the teeth.  If you are not using a water lavage and floss, you are not effectively cleaning 40%of all your teeth.

Prevention Plan

Like any health goal, it is best to have a knowledgeable coach, one who can give you a customized regimen because everyone and every mouth is different and therefor has different needs.  Dentists and hygienist truly care about you preventing disease.  Let them know what your dental goals are so they can help you achieve them.
